From your first backup to a site migration
Follow a practical path to preserve content, verify your backup, and prepare a hosting or domain move.
1. Prepare your backup
- Check server versions and documented limits.
- Configure private storage outside the public web root.
- Create the backup and keep an independent copy.
2. Verify and rehearse
Review the manifest and restore to staging first. Minimize writes while backing up and reserve enough disk space for the complete operation.
3. Review the migration
Check URLs, media, users, forms, and permalinks. Reconfigure server credentials and external scheduled jobs where needed. WP-Cron relies on WordPress execution, so confirm scheduling with your hosting provider.
